Trump Declares “Gulf of America Day.”
The government’s Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has been updated and the new name is now official.
Flying aboard Air Force One over the Gulf of America on his way to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, President Trump signed an Executive Order declaring that day to be the first Gulf of America Day.
AmericanVantagePoint.com discussed the President’s authority to rename the Gulf in a previous article, “Can President Trump Change the Name of the Gulf to the “Gulf of America.”
On the plane with the President was Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, who advised that the U.S. Geodetic Survey, which is responsible for the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), was officially recording the new name. Burgum also said that all the map companies were being called to inform them officially of the new name.

In the Executive Order, Mr. Trump wrote, “I took this action in part because, as stated in that Order, “[t]he area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico has long been an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America.”

Mr. Trump was asked if he had spoken to Mexico about the name change. He responded that he had not. He said he had talked to the Mexicans about “a number of things,” but they never brought this subject up.
Asked about how his suggestions to enlarge the U.S. by adding Greenland, Canada, the Panama Canal, and the Gaza Strip aligned with his First American” theme, Mr. Trump responded that these additions would make us “bigger, stronger and better.”
