Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Has Referred the Mayors of Boston, Denver, Chicago, and New York to the DOJ for Prosecution.
It is illegal under federal law to bring in and harbor unauthorized aliens.
Rep. Luna (R-Florida) told the four mayors that they each had personally violated — and caused their cities to violate — U.S. immigration law.
Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu appeared before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. Each of the four mayors defended their “Sanctuary City” policies, claiming that their cities were welcoming and calling on Congress to pass immigration reform.
Rep. Luna told them that they were in violation of Title 8, U.S. Code §1324, a federal law that makes it illegal to bring in and harbor unauthorized aliens.
“You all speak about a broken immigration system and yet here you guys are aiding and abetting in that entire process,” she said. “I do not think you guys are bad people but I think you are ideologically misled which is why, unfortunately based on your responses, I’m going to be criminally referring you to the Department of Justice for investigation.”
At AmericanVantagePoint.com, we have previously written about the criminal liability of mayors and governors who impede federal immigration authorities from engaging in legal law enforcement: “State and local officials who impede federal immigration enforcement may face jail time.”
Shortly thereafter, Ms. Luna announced that the criminal referrals had been made.
Attorney General Pam Bondi also commented on the hearing, with specific reference to Boston’s Mayor Wu, calling her actions “callous and an insult to law enforcement.” The AG added, “DOJ will have no choice but to increase efforts in the city of Boston. Criminals will be prosecuted, illegal aliens will be arrested, and justice will be served.”
