President Biden Pardons His Son Hunter Biden, Suprising No One.

Pres. Biden repeatedly promised that he would not pardon his son. But he has now done so and says he has kept his word.

President Joe Biden has signed “a full and unconditional pardon” for Hunter Biden, repudiating his repeated lie that he would not do so.

Repeatedly, and even as recently as November, President Biden has said that he would not pardon his son Hunter. We never believed him and knew that these statements were just more lies. We also knew that “The Big Man” would blame Republicans for all of Hunter’s legal problems, thus justifying the pardon. Indeed, he did.

Hunter Biden was charged with nine counts of federal tax evasion, failing to pay $1.4 million from 2016 through 2019. He plead guilty to the tax charges in September. A “sweetheart” negotiated plea deal, that would have granted him immunity for all other crimes, was questioned by the judge, who understood the game being played by Hunter’s lawyers and Federal prosecutors.

His guilty plea left him facing up to 17 years in prison and additionally $1.3 million in fines. He was scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 16th.

Of course, that wasn’t his only criminal case. He was also convicted of illegally purchasing a firearm while using drugs, and providing false information about his drug use when he purchased the gun in 2018. Sentencing was scheduled for December 4th and was facing up to 25 years.

The pardon reverses Hunter’s convictions, removes the anticipated fines, forgives his unpaid taxes, and immunizes him in connection with any other federal crimes, charged or not charged.

“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” said Hunter’s father. “From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted.”

This sentence should be read as, ” … and I kept my word [until I no longer kept my word].”

The elder Biden had repeatedly promised not to pardon his son. Just a few months back, in June, he said that he would “abide by the jury decision.” … “I will do that and I will not pardon him,” he said.

Having never been stopped by his repeated lies in the past, we did not believe it was possible, so long as Joe Biden had the pardon power, that he would not pardon his son.

The “full and unconditional pardon” forgives any and all federal crimes, not only those with which his son was charged. While he was charged for tax evasion and gun charges, Biden Administration prosecutoers apparently looked the other way in connection with the $7 million Hunter was paid by the Ukrainian-based Burisma Holdings Company and some other firms, presumably to pay for access to his father and favorable treatment by his father. Many legal commentors saw the elder Biden benefiting massively from his son’s business dealings in Ukraine while he was vice president. It was said that Hunter was only the “bag man,” while the money was intended for, and went to, “The Big Man.”

Some have gone so far as to say that as President, “The Big Man” paid back Ukraine in military assistance and diplomatic support, in a war that would otherwise have been of no interest to him.

As anticipated, President Biden said that the charges against his son were engineed by Congressional Republicans in order to attack him politically.

The President also said that the previously proposed plea deal — that had failed because the judge pointed out that it was more a grant of immunity than a concession of guilt — was killed by his Republican opponents. “Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter’s cases,” Hunter’s father said, implying that had the plea been accepted there would have been no need for the pardon. We don’t believe that either. Hunter was always going to be pardoned before his father left office.

“No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son—and that is wrong,” the father said. We’re reasonable, and somehow we reached the conclusion that Hunter was guilty — until he was pardoned by his father.

“I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision.” We do, and that’s about the only honest thing the elder Biden has said. But just the same, he used his extraordinary power to benefit his son, while so many others, without that lineage, are sitting in prison for the same crimes.
