Matt Gaetz Withdraws from Consideration as AG

The Dems resurrected a discredited claim that Gaetz had been involved with sex trafficking, and he withdrew. Pam Bondi got the nod to be A.G.

Former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration as Trump’s nominee to be U.S. attorney general.

“It is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work” of forming a new Cabinet, Gaetz wrote on the social media platform X.

There are some interesting possibilities being mentioned. The most prominent, one called a “chess move,” would have Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointing Gaetz to the Senate Seat being vacated by Marco Rubio, who is Trump’s nominee to be the new Secretary of State.

He was accused of having sex with a 17 year old girl, and then travelling with her across state lines, and they call this sex trafficking. These charges were investigated by the Biden D.O.J. and the investigation ended without any charges. It turns out that the principle accuser had previously accused another political opponent similarly, and there was no basis to his charges then either. Though the Justice Department dropped the charge, Democrats in the House decided to run with it and wrote up a report detailing Gaetz’ purported (but refuted) wrongdoing. But, just as they were set to release their findings, Gaetz resigned from the House, thus removing himself from the House’s jurisdiction. The report, upon his resignation, should have been filed away in secure storage, never to be seen, but Democrats see no reason to follow the rules. Instead they talk about the need for transparency, and how it is their duty to release the House report to the Senate for use during the nomination hearings. These charges appear to be totally bogus, just invented by a political opponent. For a full story on the assertions and the facts, read this article.

Within hours of Gaetz’ withdrawal, President-Elect Trump named Pam Bondi, the former Attorney General of Florida, as his new pick to head up the U.S. Departent of Justice.

UPDATE: Prominent Florida lawyer John Morgan, who has made substantial contributions to Democrats over the years, has told Politico that he is speaking with Gaetz about joining his firm, Morgan & Morgan. Gaetz will also become a prime-time host on the conservative One America News Network beginning in January.
