FEMA Spent $59 Million Last Week Alone on Luxury NYC Hotels for Illegals

Musk calls the expenditure a “gross insubordination to the President’s Executive Order,” and demands that it be clawed back.

Entrepreneur billionaire Elon Musk, who heads up DOGE, has learned that that the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent $59 million last week to provide luxury hotel accommodations to illegal immigrants in New York City.

“Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order,” Musk posted on X.

“That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high-end hotels for illegals!” Musk added.

“A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds,” Musk continued.

UPDATE: Four FEMA employees who disregarded the President’s Executive Order and approved the payment to be sent, were, within a day, located and fired. The terminated employees were FEMA’s Chief Financial Officer, two program analysts and a grant specialist, a Homeland Security statement said. The employees made “egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants … DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people.”

Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton replied to Musk’s post, saying: “I want to thank the @DOGE team for making me aware of this. Effective yesterday these payments have all been suspended from FEMA. Personnel will be held accountable.”

Hamilton, whose formal title is Senior Official Performing the Duties of FEMA Administrator, is a former Navy SEAL and was recently appointed to FEMA, where he has also been very critical of FEMA’s response to the hurricane damage in western North Carolina.

[Not really germane, but an interesting fact: Hamilton ran in the 2024 Republican primary race for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, which he lost to Derrick Anderson. Anderson subsequently lost in the November 2024 general election to Democrat Eugene Vindman. Vindaman’s twin brother, Alexander Vindman, then a Lt. Colonel, presented very anti-Trump testimony to Congress in 2019.]

Hamilton continued his tweet to say that Congress should have never asked FEMA to do that type of work in bills passed in 2023 and 2024. But, he added, “This stops now.”

Although Elon Musk called for a “clawback” of these funds, it is unclear whether a clawback demand has been made, or even how it would be handled.

President Trump had previously accused FEMA of having “lost mission focus, diverting limited staff and resources to support missions beyond its scope and authority, spending well over a billion dollars to welcome illegal aliens.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis shared Musk’s posting, opining that this funding was “probably just scratching the surface of the mismanagement/corruption that has become so commonplace.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) also shared Musk’s posting, adding that the FEMA official who had approved this $59 million expenditure, was “Breaking the law and sending American’s tax dollars to house illegals.” She added that, “People need to go to jail for this.”
